Project Overview and
Organization
The gCreating Nanocarbon Application Technologyh project
is an Osaka Prefectural joint research project related to
a region-focused program. Support provided by the Japan
Science and Technology Agency enabled this project to conduct
R&D activities from January 2005 to December 2009 with
the aim to develop high-volume nanocarbon synthesis technology
and nanocarbon-based next-generation high-performance materials.
To achieve this end, the project focused on exploiting the
full potential of the world's leading nanocarbon manufacturing
technologies that are available in Osaka Prefecture, including
the technology for stable production of carbon nanocoils
that is only available in Osaka as well as highly oriented
carbon nanotube synthesis technology that satisfies the
highest standards in the world.
January 2010 marked Phase III of the project and a specific
focus was to establish a base for the high-volume synthesis
of nanocarbons as well as develop industrial-scale applications
such as nanocarbon-fiber composite materials, other high-performance
materials, and mobile-use super capacitors used in energy-saving
and environmental fields. To realize quick commercialization
of the nanocarbon-based products, a COE (Center of Excellence)
program promotion center was organized to improve nanocarbon
material performance to accelerate practical applications
and support technology transfers mainly to manufacturing
companies within Osaka Prefecture. This center's activities
are mainly to support participating companies' R&D efforts
as well as promote the spread of nanocarbon technology and
possible applications so as to accelerate commercialization.
